IPT06540 - Maintaining the IPT Register: deregistration: outstanding IPT debt of a deregistered insurer

An insurer with an outstanding debt can still be deregistered. Deregistration does not affect the insurer’s IPT account or our ability to recover outstanding debts.

You should establish whether a debt exists once all deregistration action has been taken. You should contact the insurer or his representative to establish what the insurer proposes to do to discharge the debt, and endeavour to secure payment of the debt. Any case where payment is not immediately forthcoming should be referred to the appropriate Debt Management Unit, with a report of the facts.
