Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) and Customs Declaration Service (CDS) are the electronic systems used to process declarations when importing or exporting goods. CDS was originally designed to replace CHIEF, however CHIEF will still be in use, particularly following the transition to EU Exit.
