TSI003150 - Types of Movements: Union Transit
Authorised consignees/consignors can start/end a transit movement at their own premises.
Union transit is a customs procedure that allows goods not in free circulation, to move within the GB or EU, while customs duties or other charges are suspended.
Transit can help move goods from the GB to EU and other common transit countries more quickly and without paying import duties in those or countries or GB duties where those duties have already been suspended, because:
- customs declarations and duties are not required at each border crossing
- some customs processes can be completed away from the border at either:
- an office of departure or destination
- traders own premises if they are an authorised consignor or consignee
When transit movements arrive in the GB, the goods and the Transit Accompanying Document (TAD) must be presented at an office of transit.
The information on the TAD would form a Temporary Storage Declaration.
