TRSM95020 - How to: contents: close a trust: contents: if there are issues closing a trust online

This section provides information on what actions to take if a trustee encounters issues closing a trust using the Trust Registration Service. 

If the details entered do not match

If the trustee has provided one or more incorrect answers to the security questions, a message will be displayed on screen advising that the details entered do not match.

The trustee will have 2 more attempts before they are locked out of the service for 30 minutes. They should ensure that their answers match the information that was provided when the trust was registered or last updated. This includes any spaces between or after words.

If the trust has been closed in error

The trustee or agent will need to contact HMRC to reopen the records if the trust has been closed in error.
