The FCDO invites expressions of interest by 31 January 2025 to deliver a 5-year research programme on 2 topics:
- Sustainable transport at scale for inclusive economic growth
- Mobilising private finance at scale for inclusive, sustainable infrastructure
Research on Infrastructure in Developing Economies (RIDE)
The RIDE programme is comprised of 3 components:
- partnerships: fostering demand, capacity, learning, uptake and impact. Cultivating vibrant communities of practice (CoP) integral to the formulation of research demand from southern decision makers
- research: generates evidence-based insights and knowledge to inform policy and decision-making
- Transport Innovation Hub: the aim of the Transport Innovation Hub is to devise and implement innovative initiatives addressing specific transport problems identified by southern communities of practice
What the fund will achieve
- RIDE products and activities embedded in policies, specifications or manuals of partner governments, multilateral development banks (MDBs), international financing institutions (IFIs), development partners (DPs), resulting in sustainable, growth orientated transport investments and increased mobilisation of private finance for infrastructure (MPF-infra)
- RIDE research pushes the frontier of knowledge and innovation and influences research on transport and MPF-infra
- participating countries choose to adopt RIDE data, tools, evidence, innovations and knowledge products
- research outputs contribute to international organisations and convening bodies to improve transport investments and MPF-infra in low and middle-income countries (LMICs)
