Crush incident during transfer from bottom dump barge to tug Willem-B with loss of 1 life

Summary

On 6 June 1999 a bargehand was crushed between the tug Willem-B and bottom dump barge, R8 at Nab Tower Dumping Grounds, England. At the time of the accident there was a force 3 wind and a metre swell causing both vessels to roll. As the bargehand attempted to transfer from the tug he was crushed. Despite every effort he died on the way to hospital.
