Synopsis
Small coastal vessel grounded near Land’s End after the sole watch keeper became incapacitated by a fall from the bridge chair. The ship became a constructive total loss and the cargo of scrap plastic was discharged at the wreck site.
Action taken
The Chief Inspector of Marine Accidents has written to the owner of the vessel noting the post-accident, corrective actions taken by the company, especially with respect to observing the flag states’ circular concerning lookouts being posted with the officer of the watch during the hours of darkness and that the watch alarm should be switched on whenever the officer is the sole lookout.
