Synopsis

The vessel flooded and foundered to the north of the Shetland Isles.

Action taken

To prevent a similar accident occurring in the future, the owners were recommended to ensure the following on any fishing vessel that they own in the future

  • Watertight bulkheads are maintained in watertight condition throughout the life of the vessel

  • Bilge alarms, with visual and audible signal, should be fitted in all the main watertight compartments

  • A television should not be fitted in the wheelhouse
