Synopsis

Experienced single-handed fishermen lost overboard whilst creel fishing. His vessel was washed up on to the rocks. The Fisherman was not wearing a lifejacket and subsequently drowned.

Action taken

No recommendations were made as a result of this PE. However, the MCA were informed that the vessel had not been inspected in accordance with the code of practice for small fishing vessels and it appeared there was no awareness of the code itself.

It was also established that a lifejacket study by the RNLI & Seafish was due to get underway in spring 2004.
