Certification of lifejackets: UK23/L002

UK approved recommendation UK23/L002 on the certification of lifejackets that cannot demonstrate turning action when tested. Adopted EU recommendation LSA-095.

Question

Can a Lifejacket obtain a type-approval certificate when the Reference Test Device (RTD) has not been able to successfully turn subjects during the in-water testing?

Recommendation

No, a candidate device must be able to demonstrate turning action when tested.

If the RTD also fails to turn the subjects, then suitable subjects should be found which the RTD can demonstrate turning and therefore it can be verified whether the candidate device effectively provides turning action when compared to the RTD.
