Consistent handling of additional options for systems: UK21/G013
Adopted EU recommendation GEN-025. UK approved recommendation on systems with functions other than those required.
Question
Many systems (especially navigational systems) include additional options of different relevance for the basic – required – functionality. Additional options could have adverse effects on the required functions, could cause confusion if not correct or even establish an independent functionality that falls under separate carriage / approval requirements. If used, for example, for navigation and implemented in navigational systems, such options should not simply be ignored. The user normally relies on the UK conformity mark and does not anticipate that the use of an additional option for navigation might impair the system or not work correctly.
Recommendation
Functions other than the mandatory functions specified in the applicable regulations and standards may be included providing they do not affect the correct performance of the mandatory function or their use.
This should be properly verified and documented by the Approved Body.
