Fire tests for B-class doors: UK21/F008

Adopted EU recommendation FIRE-025. UK approved recommendation on the testing of B-class doors.

Question

The question concerns approved B-class bulkhead as supporting construction for B-class door and approved B-class ceilings incorporating fittings.

Integrity failure may occur along one of the joints in the approved B-class bulkhead. Shall this integrity failure be considered a failure of the door construction as well?

The same question may apply to approved B-class ceiling incorporating fittings.

Recommendation

Bulkheads

As long as the failure in the joints of the B-class bulkhead does not occur in the area immediately surrounding the doorframe, the integrity failure shall not be considered a failure of the door construction.

Ceilings

In case of ceiling incorporating fittings, the failure of joints between ceiling and fittings is to be considered a failure of the integrity of the B-class division when incorporating such fittings, not a failure of the basic performance of the approved B-class ceiling itself as tested when no fittings are installed.

In case of failure the following actions shall be taken by the UK approved body:

  1. Inform the Approved Body issuing the production conformity certificate
  2. Inform the manufacturer of the supporting construction
  3. Inform the administration
