Float-free arrangement requirements for liferafts: UK23/L003

UK approved recommendation UK23/L003 on the requirements for float-free arrangements for liferafts located inside a marine evacuation systems container. Adopted EU recommendation LSA-096.

Question

Are float-free arrangements required for liferafts located on/inside the Marine Evacuation System (MES) container and deployed together with the chute/slide?

Recommendation

Yes. Based on the LSA Code Chapter IV Section 4.1.6 (referred to from LSA Code Ch VI Section 6.2.3.1), and SOLAS Chapter III Reg.13, paragraph 4.2, all liferafts shall be stowed with a float-free arrangement, including integrated liferafts which are stowed on/inside an MES container.
