Interconnection of additional facilities: UK21/N002

Adopted EU recommendation NAV-013. UK approved recommendation on the definition of an additional facility.

Question

The IEC 60945/6.4b) requires that proper arrangements shall be made to achieve electrical separation between the Equipment under Test (EUT) and such “additional equipment” - sustaining at least 1 kV isolation between the two units of equipment.

A computer, a monitor and a keyboard are the minimum hardware components needed for compliance with the ECDIS performance standards – accordingly A.694(17)/1.2 and 3.5 are not applicable for the interconnections of these components. What may be reckoned as an “additional facility” requiring interconnection in agreement with 3.5?

Recommendation

An “additional facility” is considered to be everything in excess of the minimum components necessary for the Equipment under Test (EUT) to accomplish its function in compliance with the IMO performance standards. Any interconnection of such “additional facilities” shall comply with IEC 60945/6.4 when one of the following conditions exists: * the “additional facility” has its own power supply * the “additional facility” is not tested as part of Equipment under Test (EUT)

Furthermore the ports of the EUT which are used for the interconnection of the Additional Facilities shall be subject to IEC 60945/10.3.

Note: UK21/G012 also applies.
