Issuance of module B to several companies: UK21/F020

Adopted EU recommendation FIRE-065. UK approved recommendation on the issuing of a module B certificate to multiple companies.

Question

  • Company X is the maker of the raw material (for example, fibre for textiles)
  • Company Y is the manufacturer of the final product (for example, fabric producer)
  • Company Z is the testing laboratory
  1. Company X, using its own raw material, has manufactured a final product and obtained test reports from Company Z attesting conformity of prototypes to the relevant requirements using a general document (Summary Reports dated 2014) based on fabric produced for their clients.
  2. Company Y, using/buying the raw materials of Company X for its final product, asked the Approved Body to issue a Type Examination certificate (Module B) based on summary test report issued to the product of Company X.

Is it possible for an Approved Body to issue a Module B certificate for several companies evaluating only the test report as in Point 1 (Summary Reports) headed to Company X without any proper further testing made from current production?

Recommendation

No, the tests must be carried out on a specimen representative of the production envisaged supplied directly by the Applicant/Manufacturer (Company Y).
