Performance criteria for type examination: UK21/G015

Adopted EU recommendation GEN-029. UK approved recommendation on the capturing of performance criteria identified during type examination.

Question

How should UK Approved Bodies capture the performance criteria which have been identified during testing on the UK Type Examination certificate? For example, MSC.81 (70) states when testing liferafts “…the liferaft should be suspended and then dropped from a height of 18 m into the water. If it is to be stowed at a height greater than 18 m, it should be dropped from the height at which it is to be stowed…” Thus alternative performance criteria may be applied during the certification process.

Recommendation

  1. Where the test standards allow for equipment to be used with varying performance criteria, the applicable criteria shall be clearly stated in any relevant Certificate (i.e. Modules B or G and, as appropriate, D, E, F – see AR GEN 019), and:

  2. The certificate should draw the manufacturer and end user’s attention to the requirement for further testing should they wish to use the subject product for an application to which it has not been tested.
