Restricted approvals of “B” class boundaries: UK21/F026

Adopted EU recommendation FIRE-080. UK approved recommendation on the approval of "B" class divisions under the UK-US mutual recognition agreement on marine equipment.

Question

Annex 6 of MSN 1874 as amended states that “Restricted ‘B’ class divisions are not covered by this agreement”. Does it mean that the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Approval number cannot be applied to the product?

Recommendation

The mutual recognition agreement (MRA) prohibition of “restricted ‘B’ class” divisions/doors means that approvals for “B” class divisions/doors should not limit the location or orientation for installation of the division/door based on an asymmetrical design that has not been fully tested for general application. It is only “B” class divisions and “B” class fire doors that have been verified to be in compliance with the “general application” conditions that are entitled to have the USCG Approval number.
