Hazard: During high-speed particle impact testing conducted in accordance with EN 166 for B-marked face shields, some 5E-11 Face shields (with a manufacture date of December 2021) were breaking. The breaking occurred at 120 m/s when impacted on the side(s) of the face shield only.

Corrective action: The product has been recalled from end users.

Product Description 3M™ 5E-11 Face Shield which provides protection against UV, IR (heat) and/or intense visible light. The visor is clipped into a 3M face shield holder and fitted to a 3M Industrial Safety Helmet.

Hazard

During high-speed particle impact testing conducted in accordance with EN 166 for B-marked face shields, some 5E-11 Face shields (with a manufacture date of December 2021) were breaking. The breaking occurred at 120 m/s when impacted on the side(s) of the face shield only.

The non-compliance relates to the visor not passing the above mentioned side impact test only.

3M have established that 30 single 5E-11 units with a manufacture date of December 2021 were sold to UK distributors.

Corrective action

This product is being recalled by the Importer (3M UK Plc).

The Importer has issued a ‘Stop use / return’ notice with instructions to notify the relevant end users. The notice will allow the user to identify affected items and gives instructions to stop using the product and return the items to the distributor.

Communication actions have been taken with 3M’s authorised distributor network.
