Hazard
The product presents a chemical risk as testing concluded that it contains an excess amount of phthalates. Phthalates can potentially harm children’s health either via cancer or non-cancer effect and may cause the child to have long term health implications.
The product also presents a risk of asphyxiation as the ‘pool’ plastic packaging had dimensions greater than 100mm by 100mm, therefore the average plastic sheeting thickness must not be less than 0.038mm. The average plastic sheeting thickness was found to be 0.025mm.
The product does not comply with the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.
Corrective action
OPSS is requiring the recall of the product from end users.
