Hazard
The product presents a serious chemical risk as the plasticised material on the bottom of the shoes contains bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) in excess of the maximum specified limit. Phthalates can potentially harm children’s health either via cancer or non-cancer effects and may cause the child to have long term health implications. Additionally, the bag thickness on the flexible plastic bag used for packaging was measured to be less than the minimum 0.038mm specified. The bag therefore poses a potential asphyxiation hazard. Some of the required markings were not present.
The product does not meet the requirements of the REACH Regulations 2008 or the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.
