Hazard

This product poses a serious risk of choking to young children as the supplied coin batteries are freely accessible in a battery box which does not have any security features to prevent access.

Such batteries, which were found to fit inside a small parts cylinder, could cause serious internal chemical burns and cause damage to the child’s gastrointestinal tract if ingested or placed inside any part of the body. The choking risk is further exacerbated as the zip puller detached during a 90-newton tension test and was found to fit wholly within a small parts cylinder indicating that it poses a choking hazard to young children. The inner seams did not withstand a 70-newton seam strength test and gave access to the polyester filling.

The product packaging also poses an asphyxiation hazard as the polymer bag thickness measured as 0.021m which is less than the minimum 0.038mm specified. It does not bear any warnings that this has been calculated to pose a risk. The product failed flammability testing therefore also poses a fire risk.

The product does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005, the Furniture & Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 and the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.

Corrective action

Voluntary recall of the product from end users. More information can be found on the manufacturer’s recall page.

The listing has also been removed by the online marketplace (Etsy).
