Hazard

The Flex Mobile Power units from a series of production dates from the start of production in 2019 to May 2022, may overheat resulting in thermal damage to the case and the potential for fire damage or injury. The overheating issues resulted from leaking from individual battery cells within the units, causing corrosion.

The product is not in compliance with the safety objectives of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.

There have been 9 overheating incidents reported in several countries. There have been no injuries reported with any of the incidents.

Corrective action

All customers will be contacted directly by Steelcase or Steelcase dealers to arrange for removal of the batteries by a licensed recycling company, and supplied with new production batteries. The collection and replacement process is ongoing.
