Hazard

Risk of serious crushing or impact injury to children may arise due to detachment from the wall and the equipment falling forwards.

The centre of gravity results in the unit tending to lean forwards away from the wall and stability relies on the suitability and strength of wall fixings. The motorized mount is not fitted with sensors or devices for limiting power or detecting collision and reversing the motor. Access to the controls is not restricted to adults. The motor is capable of applying a force of 4625 N and collision with furniture or other fixed objects can apply excessive force to the wall fixings causing them to fail and the heavy unit falling forwards.

A risk of serious crushing injury to children between the bottom edge of the display screen and fixed objects may also arise.

The machine did not satisfy the requirements of The Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008.

Corrective action

The manufacturer has been required to suspend further supply of the SCETAW and other wall and floor mounted motorised height adjustable mounts of a similar design.

The GB based supplier is also required to suspend further supply and to provide existing customers with updated user instructions and advice.

Users of these or similar motorised height adjustable display mounts that do not include an anti-collision device or similar protective features should contact the machine manufacturer or their supplier for advice on measures that can be taken to eliminate or reduce risks. This may include advice on:

  • Availability of retrofit sensors or devices for limiting power or detecting collision
  • The checks and maintenance that should be carried out to ensure the suitability and strength of existing wall and floor fixings
  • Availability of any alternative and supplementary means of fixing if required
  • Measures that can be taken to reduce risk of collision with fixed objects
  • Measures than can be taken to restrict use of the motorized height function to trained and authorised persons
