Hazard
The product presents a high chemical risk as the 10ml nicotine e-liquid cartridge which attaches to the device is not locked to the device robustly and can be easily removed. This allows the toxic nicotine e-liquid to leak out of the device and cartridge, presenting a risk to human health.
E-cigarettes are required to be child-resistant and tamper-evident, and therefore the product does not meet the requirements of the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016.
Corrective action
The import has been rejected at the border and the manufacturer has redesigned the product to ensure the e-liquid cartridge locks effectively.
Owners should stop using the vape immediately and check whether they have an affected device by attaching the e-liquid cartridge and trying to remove it. Affected devices should be disposed of safely.
Vapes should not be placed in the same bins as your regular rubbish or recycling. Their batteries can cause a fire if they overheat or when crushed in bin lorries or waste and recycling plants.
You can find out how to dispose of your vape safely by checking your local authority’s website for information about the safe disposal of batteries in your area or you can find your nearest recycling centre at: www.recycleyourelectricals.org.uk
