Hazard

The product poses a high risk of choking for children under 3 due to easily accessible AAA batteries, which fit into a small parts cylinder. The tested product did not have a screw on the battery cover.

The zip puller detached during a 90-newton tension test and was found to fit wholly within a small parts cylinder which presents another choking hazard, and it also generated a sharp point capable of posing a skin puncture hazard.

The inner mesh which retains the polyester filling material was easy to tear and gave access to the filling material. The electrical wires were approximately 230mm in length and as such considered to pose a strangulation hazard.

The product also presents a suffocation risk as the supplied polymer bag was sufficiently large enough to be able to cover a child’s mouth and nose simultaneously. When measured it was found to have an average thickness 0.036mm which is below the 0.038mm standard.

The product also failed on heating and abnormal operation - the cushion did not comply with heating test or tension test (the wires did not withstand the 70N tension force and were broken). The product contained no permanent labelling or wording as required by Schedule 7 of The Furniture and Furnishings (fire) (safety) Regulations 1988.

The product does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005, the Furniture & Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 and the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.

Corrective action

The product has been withdrawn from the market.

The listing has also been removed by the online marketplace (Amazon).
