Hazard

This product presents high risk of electric shock due to its inadequate sizing. The plug on the product failed to comply with BS1363-1 as the thickness of the live and neutral pins was found to be 4.11 & 4.07 mm which exceeds the limit of 4.05mm. The British Standard also requires the thickness of the earth pin to be no less than 3.9mm. The dimension of the pin on this product was found to be 3.85 mm. The dimensions of the sleeved parts of the pins differed from the metal parts of the pins. This resulted in a distinct step between the two and could cause damage to the socket. If this is significant damage, it could cause the product to become live. The fuse also had insecurely fitted endcaps, that had simply been pushed on trapping the fuse wire alongside the barrel. The fuse had not been supplied with any granular filler, which is required to ensure safe operation of the fuse under fault conditions.

The product was also missing some required marking and documentation and did not comply with the Plugs and Sockets (Safety) Regulations 1994 or the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.

Corrective action

The import has been rejected at the border.
