Hazard

The product presents a serious risk of electric shock as the plug used does not comply with BS1363 due to the pins being too close together, resulting in the plug making poor contact with the socket. This could cause the product to become live and potentially give the consumer an electric shock. The earth pin was fitted with a sleeve which is not permitted. The plug was not fitted with a fuse and had no means of incorporating one. The thickness of the live and neutral pins was 3.88 & 3.86 mm, less than the required 3.9mm and the breadths of the live and neutral pins were 5.91 & 5.85 mm, less than the required 6.22mm.

The lengths of the live and neutral pin were also too short and there were accessible conductive parts separated from live parts only by basic insulation. The product was also missing some of the required documentation and markings. The departures from the British Standard were such that it was considered that there was a risk of electric shock.

The product does not comply with the Plugs and Sockets (Safety) Regulations 1994 or The Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.

Corrective action

Import rejected at the border. Destruction of the product.
