Hazard
This product poses a serious choking hazard as the cushion utilises 3 x AAA batteries, which fit into a small parts cylinder. The batteries were accessible without the aid of a tool to open the battery box and through a Velcro fastening. The product’s inner seams did not withstand a 70-newton seam strength test and gave access to the filling material.
The packaging also poses a suffocation hazard as the bag was sufficiently large to be able to cover a child’s mouth and nose simultaneously, and when measured it was found to have an average thickness 0.027mm which is below the 0.038mm standard. It does not bear any warnings that this has been calculated to pose a risk. In addition, the electrical wires were approximately 230mm in length and as such is considered to pose a risk strangulation hazard. The product failed flammability testing and therefore also poses a fire risk.
The product does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005, the Furniture & Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 and the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.
