Hazard
The product presents a high risk of injuries as moving parts and linkages are accessible by hand, including the motor cage which is accessible when the cover is easily removed. If a user were to catch a body part in the unguarded moving parts they could receive serious injuries. Also, the bolts holding the sander to the base were loose and will become undone with the vibration of the device. This could result in the user losing control of the machinery and suffering injuries.
The product also posed and electric shock risk due to its poor internal build quality. The transformer did not meet creepage and clearance requirements and the adapter featured poor quality connections with wires soldered directly to the PCB.
The plug was a 2-pin euro style plug that does not meet the dimensions required by the relevant standard, BS 1363. There was also no fuse present and no instructions to ensure the safe installation and use of the machinery. Improvements are required to the documentation, markings and declaration of conformity.
The product does not meet the requirements of the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 or the Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994.
Corrective action
We recommend owners stop using this product immediately. Contact the distributor you purchased from to request redress.
