Hazard
The product presents a serious risk of electric shock due to its inadequate electric strength, earth bond and construction. The product also uses a counterfeit plug and cable. The earthing connections did not have the protective earth symbol next to it and the screw could be undone externally. The timer was not wired up and is used more as an indication, rather than influencing the operation of the product. The hot plate was not connected to the protective earth. When electric strength tests were performed, a breakdown occurred at around 460V, before the full test voltage could be applied.
The plug was found to fit a BS 1363 plug gauge; however, the product featured a counterfeit BSI kitemark and was not marked with a model number. Some of the required documentation and markings were not present.
The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.
Corrective action
Destruction of the product.
