Report a suspected problem with an animal medicine or microchip
You can report a problem with:
- an animal medicine
- a microchip
You cannot currently use the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) service to report problems.
Report a problem with an animal medicine
You can report a problem with an animal medicine so it can be monitored for safety. This includes:
- an unexpected reaction - in an animal or a person
- times when a medicine has not worked
You can report a problem by:
- telling your vet
- contacting the marketing authorisation holder, or the holder’s local representative - their contact details are on the leaflet that came with the medicine
If you no longer have the medicine packaging, you can check who the medicine marketing authorisation (MA) holder is on the product information database.
Reporting a problem with a microchip
You can report an unexpected reaction to a microchip implantation to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
Contact microchipping@defra.gov.uk with any queries to do with a reaction or problem with a microchip.
If you need help
Contact the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) Pharmacovigilance Team if you have any questions about reporting reactions.
