4D Technologies for Teachers: investigating the use of ICT by the rural poor in Eastern Province, South Africa.

Abstract

The research reported in this paper arises out of a number of educational activities and interventions carried out in relation to new information and communication technologies (ICT). The research asked whether there is a role for ICT in rural schooling and development, and if so what that role is. The paper includes a review of the Eastern Cape context, including a survey of current ICT use and provision in rural schools, and an account of work carried out by the DEEP project.
