A new paediatric tablet strength of benznidazole for the treatment of Chagas disease

Abstract

There is a need for a paediatric formulation for the treatment of Chagas' disease – most infections with and treatments for the early stages of the disease are in children. In this study, available dose recommendations and treatment data from various groups working with infants or children with the disease were reviewed to determine a paediatric tablet strength that could best complement the current 100mg tablet. It was concluded that a tablet containing 12.5 mg of the drug was needed.
