A Series of Innovation Policy Briefs: Promoting Innovation and Finance for Productivity Growth in Low Income Countries (LICs)

Abstract

This project aims to understand Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME)-level innovation in the manufacturing sector, its processes, innovation system and finance mechanisms as well as the firm-level determinants of innovation, critical factors for its diffusion. It is based on primary data from 10 African and Asian countries (Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Vietnam, Bangladesh and Indonesia).

The briefs in this series will provide practical and operational insights to help policy makers address specific determinants, mechanisms and interactions that apply to SMEs in manufacturing and their innovative capacity.
