Acceptability studies contribution to microbicide access.

Abstract

This presentation describes recent research, in various African countries, on the accepatability of placebo formulations (gels, vaginal rings, tablets, films and capsules) to the women and their male partners who are intended to use microbicides. It is concluded that such studies provide essential information, should be considered an integral part of microbicide research, and raise issues that need further investigation; there is a need for capacity building in social-behavioural research.
