Adaptation is ... Predicting malaria's changing course in East Africa
Abstract
This is one of a series of brief project profiles which provide insights into the kinds of challenges Africans face in adapting to climate change, and the strategies they are testing with research supported by the CCAA program. The profiles are based on interviews with CCAA staff and research team members, local officials, and community members involved in or affected by the research.
East Africa is experiencing outbreaks of malaria in highland areas where there is little experience with the disease. Researchers led by the Kenya Medical Research Institute are combining climate observation with medical research to predict highland malaria outbreaks in Kenya,Tanzania, and Uganda so local officials can better prepare for them.
