Abstract
This project had two broad objectives: first, to compare four different conceptual approaches to poverty - monetary, capabilities, social exclusion and participatory - from a theoretical point of view; and, second, to assess empirically the informational losses arising from adopting one or the other, in a comparative perspective. The methodology followed towards achieving these objectives is detailed in this report. Section 1 deals with the theoretical analysis, and Section 2 with empirical work. In the latter, first we give details of the large data bases in India and Peru to be used in the analysis; second, details of the data collected by fieldwork detailing particularly the participatory methods used; third, the methodology used for the analysis of data.
