APPP Research Report 05. Religion, demande sociale, et réformes éducatives au Sénégal. [Religion, social demand, and educational reforms in Senegal]

Abstract

This report explores the educational reform process in Senegal. In particular it examines how political change in 2000 and the advent of a more democratic era has broken with tradition and pursued reform policies explicitly designed to \"go with the flow\" of social demand, even if they challenge the country's historic commitment to the principle of secularism in many ways. The report then examines the specific reform measures that were adopted, and social trends observable from these reforms. It also examines various problems encountered in the implementation of the reform.
