Abstract

The problems associated with informal local governance are briefly highlighted. Researchers from the Centre for the Future State have been undertaking in-depth comparative research on informal local governance in rural areas in Karnataka and Rajasthan in India and in Punjab Province, Pakistan. General conclusions from this research relevant to policymakers are outlined.
