Assessment of the Nile Perch Fishery in Lake Victoria.

Abstract

Data from the recorded catch in the fishery, effort estimated from census and other data, and published growth and mortality values are used to assess the Nile perch fishery in Lake Victoria. Results indicate that the fishery is overexploited. It is recommended that effort be reduced to around 14000 boats and a minimum size limit of at least 50 cm be introduced.
