Assignment Report: End of Project Evaluation of DFID Support to the Delivery of Essential Health Services (EHS), Kenya
Abstract
The purpose of this project for DFID was to support the Government of Kenya and the Ministries of Public Health and Sanitation and of Medical Services, under the auspices of the Second National Health Sector Strategic Plan, to provide integrated effective health services in Kenya, particularly for poor women and infants.
The EHS programme of support has been successful in largely achieving its objectives and also in the way it has worked in a fully integrated way at central, provincial and district level. There is an EHS esprit de corps which is palpable from the national level to Community Units. This is a feat achieved by few programmes funded by donor partners. DFID have done well in designing a programme that anticipated integration into national programmes. EHS have done well to implement the approach to a degree which was unlikely to have been anticipated by those who initially designed the programme.
