Baseline survey report for 11 low volume sealed roads in Kenya

Investigates the performance of nonstandard construction materials used on roads

Abstract

The roads under study are spread across four counties in Central Region of Kenya; the baseline survey sought to investigate 11 trial sections to determine the performance of the nonstandard construction materials used on the roads.

The roads showed very low base course CBR values; the deflection/stiffness of the pavements was highly variable along the section lengths and the surfacing on all the roads (cold mix asphalt) showed varied performance, with the majority performing very well and others showing cracks and ravelling.

This project is funded by DFID under the Applied Research on Rural Roads and Transport Services through Community Access Programmes in Africa and Asia (AFCAP2 and AsCAP)
