Biofortification for combating micronutrient malnutrition: Identification of commercial sorghum cultivars with high grain iron and zinc concentrations
Abstract
This paper reports on assessment of variability of iron and zinc contents in commercial sorghum cultivars being grown in India. Variability was high, and there was a positive correlation between grain iron and zinc concentrations. Compared with post-rainy season sorghums predominantly grown for food use in India, commercial hybrids grown in the rainy season possessed up to 50% higher Fe and Zn concentrations.
