Caracterización socio económica para la Aplicación del Seguimiento y Evaluación Participativa, SEP, en los distritos del Norte de Potosí [Social-economic characterization for the Implementation of Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation, SEP, in the districts of Northern Potosí]

Abstract

This document outlines the common characteristics and problems within four districts in the Northern Potosí region of Bolivia. Much of the districts do not have basic services (water, electricity, toilets, etc). Roads that allow easy access to transport, health and education centres are distant from communities and in fact young children have to walk long distances to reach schools. Each of these regions, producer associations and North Potosi indian families face common problems such as soil erosion, diseases, pest attack, the unstable and irregular climatic factor and, unfortunately, due to lack of knowledge of existing productive potential, these areas are facing soil erosion, endangering food sovereignty, inducing low crop productivity, loss of native biodiversity and natural resources like soil, water, especially existing vegetation in these areas.
