Climate finance literature review. Final Report, 4th April 2012.
This review presents an overview of the standard and innovative types of financing mechanisms available, as well as best practice
Abstract
This literature review of climate financing mechanisms was carried out in response to a DEWPoint helpdesk enquiry. The Bangladesh Climate Change Resilience Fund (BCCRF) has been cited in the literature discussing national climate financing mechanisms as a demonstration case for Low Income Countries (LICs) to learn from. The literature review presents an overview of the standard and innovative types of financing mechanisms available, as well as best practice in establishing national climate financing mechanisms and the implications for development planning, drawing heavily from a UNDP guidance paper on the subject. It makes use of a recent critique of the BCCRF by the Institute for Development Studies (IDS), and focuses lesson learning around the weak areas that were identified in this review.
This report was produced by DEW Point, a Resource Centre for Environment, Water and Sanitation, that was funded by DFID and managed by a consortium of companies led by Harewelle International Limited. The Resource Centre closed in 2012.
