Clinical audit: learning from systematic case reviews assessed against explicit criteria.

Abstract

One of the main types of audit as applied to maternal health, is the clinical audit, involving assessment against explicitly agreed criteria with a view to improving the quality of care. This chapter looks at: the clinical audit cycle; key principles; its purpose, advantages and disadvantages; the process for conducting a clinical audit at a health facility; and other sources of information.
