Codes of Conduct as Tools to Improve the Situation of Women in Southern Workplaces. R7899 Final Report.
Abstract
This report starts by briefly describing methods, then turns to the research findings providing a brief context on corporate codes of conduct and monitoring in Nicaragua, followed by women worker's knowledge of codes. In the following section, the authors describe the lack of compliance with codes, the three reasons that women workers identify for this and some recommendations: the problems with implementing and monitoring codes, the lack of awareness and commitment of management and the lack of awareness of workers. In the last section, the authors add their own voices, providing policy analysis with some recommendations for further research, followed by dissemination and recommendations for different stakeholders.
