Comment: Changing mindsets in health policy and systems research

Abstract

As 2015 approaches, countries are intent on hastening progress towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and beginning to discuss a post-MDG roadmap for health. Evidence on progress towards the health MDGs has underlined the need to strengthen health systems, while the resurgence of interest in primary health care and the expanding global movement for universal health coverage have moved health systems and health policy and systems research (HPSR) to centre stage. HPSR has the potential to provide evidence that can support efforts to strengthen the performance of health systems.
