Computer aids in fisheries management Adaptive research - The Application of LFDA to Zimbabwe Lake Data.
Abstract
In order to test the applicability of the length frequency data analysis (LFDA) suite of methods to African localities, two sets of data from man-made lakes in Zimbabwe were obtained. The first came from 14 months consecutive data for the kapenta (which support major tilapia fisheries in particular) from lift net catches of the Sanyati Basin, Lake Kariba, and the second from variable monthly samples from experimental poisoning of bay communities at 7 locations around Lake McIlwaine. LFDA was used to estimate growth parameters and total mortality from the length data described. Results are presented by sample site.
