Developing and adopting a mental health law: lessons from Zambia

Abstract

Zambia's mental health legislation is outdated and inadequate. Using participatory approaches, a number of steps were taken to develop a draft mental health bill that is in line with international human rights standards. Key outcomes and challenges are outlined.
